Zoran was the "Chief Medical Officer of the Supreme Council", to give his official title. When there was an outbreak of disease in the village of Trion, the council summoned him to a meeting and voted to send him to the village to investigate. Arriving with his assistant, Inta, his methods and theories to cure the plague were primitive, and after the death of a gorilla he was forced to accept the theories of the astronauts. Presenting the theories as his own, he secured the support of Zaius and enough council members to research a cure for malaria. Again helped by the humans, he successfully cured the patients and reluctantly allowed the fugitives to escape.

Zoran is a common South Slavic name, the masculine form of Zora, which means dawn, daybreak. The name is especially common in Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia and a little in Slovenia.
