Bethune started both acting and dancing at age four, and began training in ballet at age six. She performed with the New York City Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet, and The San Francisco Ballet Theatre, and starred in TV series The Nurses and in the film Who's That Knocking At My Door. She also directed and/or choreographed over 50 plays, films, videos, and ballets. Zina was the Artistic Director of 'Bethune Theatredanse', a multimedia dance company founded in LA in 1980, and also founded a program for disabled youth to learn and perform dance and drama that currently serves over 1,000 mentally and physically challenged children.
A life-long animal lover, Zina was struck and killed by a car while trying to help an injured opossum.
