Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Most of us know that there have been many different highs and many different lows in the Planet of the Apes series. With the Rise of the Planet of the Apes coming out this week, many people have already begun retroactively looking and analyzing this series. Over at MSNBC, they are discussing their favorite and most hated parts of the movies. We will briefly highlight some of their discussions here, for the full article please see the source.

They believe that they best line mentioned from the macho category is of course the series most iconic catch phrase. When Charlton Heston says "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!". Another category that is pretty interesting is that they discuss the worst twist ending in the series. Unfortunately this took place in the second movie, Beneath the Planet of the Apes. As we have seen (spoiler alert - but to be fair it's a 41 year old film), all life is killed at the end of the movie by a nuclear device. Supposedly this was because Heston did not want to create a third movie, however we all know that a third movie eventually came out.

Finally the other most interesting category that they discuss is the creepiest human scene. Again this takes place in the movie, Beneath the Planet of the Apes. The underground Manhattan mutants began to worship the nuclear bomb that has destroyed New York. They utter the prayer

"Glory be to the Bomb, and to the Holy Fallout. ... The heavens declare the glory of the bomb, and the firmament showeth his handiwork."

Do you agree or disagree with some of their selections? Would you have gone with something different as your choice? What are your opinions on Beneath the Planet of the Apes.. is it truly as bad as it's made out to be?
