Scott Rudin is an American film and theater producer who formed his own production company before joining 20th Century Fox as an executive producer in the mid 1980s. He became president of production by 1986, but soon left for positions with Tri-Star, Paramount and the Disney-controlled Touchstone, Walt Disney Pictures, Hollywood Pictures and Miramax Films. Over the years, Rudin's array of successful film productions have included Revenge of the Stepford Wives (1980), Little Man Tate (1991, written by Scott Frank), The Addams Family (1991), Sister Act (1992), Clueless (1995), The First Wives Club (1996), The Truman Show (1998), South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999), Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999), Angela's Ashes (1999), Zoolander (2001), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Iris (2001), School of Rock (2003), The Stepford Wives (2004), The Manchurian Candidate (2004), I Heart Huckabees (2004), Team America: World Police (2004), The Queen (2006), No Country for Old Men (2007), There Will Be Blood (2007) and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008).

In late 2008, it was announced that screenwriter-turned-director Scott Frank would direct the new Planet of the Apes movie titled Caesar. He asked Scott Rudin to serve as producer, having enjoyed working as writer with him on Little Man Tate almost twenty years earlier. Frank later decided to rewrite the Apes script himself, with original writers Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa relegated to the role of co-producers. The "hard science fiction film" was planned to enter active development in February 2009. During 2009, however, Scott Frank left the project, which Fox considered too expensive, too dark and too cerebral, and Scott Rudin left as well.[1][2] Rudin would soon receive acclaim for his award-winning productions The Social Network (2010), True Grit (2010) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011).
