Morton Haack was a highly-acclaimed (three 'Oscar' nominations) costume designer who provided the iconic ape costumes in Planet of the Apes (1968), and also the costumes of their enemies the mutants in it's sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Mort Haack had designed wardrobe for two Broadway shows by the time he was 16, when he branched out to designing the overall concept for such major undertakings as Detroit's 250th birthday celebration and the New Orleans Mardi Gras. Among his film chores were The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Games, a Simone Signoret film.[1] He was involved in the countless costume sketches made for the original Apes movie as it's setting and concept evolved, and the planning of the costumes for Beneath proved a difficult task also as the script went through endless re-writes.
