British comic artist John Bolton was the main contributor to the Brown & Watson Planet of the Apes annuals published between 1975 and 1977. His fantastically-detailed artwork was significantly above the standard expected of such publications of the time, both in the comic strips he drew, and particularly in the uncoloured spot illustrations he provided to accompany some of the short stories.
Bolton has since become a top artist of the fantasy and horror genre. As well as the occasional exhibition of his work and some cracking book covers, he also continues to work in the field of comics where he still produces quality work for the likes of DC's Books of Magic. In his time he has tackled many of the major characters including Batman and X-Men, as well as making his mark on a couple of other 20th Century Fox sci-fi franchises.
