Army Archerd (born January 13th, 1919 or 1922) was a journalist from The Bronx, New York with a career spanning more than fifty years employed by 'Variety'. A close friend of producer Arthur P. Jacobs, Army Archerd made on-screen appearances in three of the original Planet of the Apes films. In Planet of the Apes and Beneath the Planet of the Apes, he played a bit parts as nameless gorilla soldiers. In Escape from the Planet of the Apes, he played the Boxing Referee. As with James Bacon and Joyce Haber, Jacobs' employment of nationally-syndicated journalists on his movie sets helped generate great publicity for his latest movie projects.
