They're are definitely reboots to the films Beneath, Escape, Conquest, and Battle so in my opinion the recent films are retconning the films I've just mention except the original. If a new trilogy happens it may involve nuclear war which would connect it futher to the original.
So to me the recent films are both reboots and prequels but what do you think?Read more >

I do think Colonel's belief of humans becoming primitive can be questioned but Nova asking Maurice if she is ape is weird to me. Does she no longer understand she is a human? Her not being saddened with her father's death is also bizarre.

I’ve been wondering on everyone in the community’s output is with regards to Ash’s and Blue Eye’s age. Although it states that the two are 6 years old in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, I've only found sources that state otherwise, that they should be around 8 years old during that time.
For Ash, I have found that, in the first few pages of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: #1—which take place before DotPotA— that Maurice states that Rise happened 2 winters ago, right after the panel of Ash being born. Knowing that Maurice states that it’s been 10 winters ago in Dawn, I would think that Ash is proximately 8.
For Blue Eyes: in Planet of the Apes: Revelations, in Chapter 24, Blue Eyes states that he is 10 years old.

Matt Reeves, who's currently preparing The Batman, revealed his ideal plans for future Apes prequels. The director intends to build on the changes that were introduced in the first installment, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and make future movies that have their own story while maintaining a connection to the original franchise.
Reeves: In the original, obviously, there was like 5,000 years of evolution that occurred after a nuclear holocaust and that’s what enabled the apes to reach this level of evolution. In this one, the idea was that the timeline was changed radically, and yet the originals are sort of a trajectory. And it’s like they’re in the same universe and they vibrate up against each other narratively.
Reeves: When [co-writer] Mark […Read more >

I am confused about the character "Stone" in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. In the novelization, Grey and Stone are followers of Koba, portrayed in the movie by two chimps. The wikia page has Stone listed as a gorilla loyalist to Caesar, and the pictures shown are of a character I always assumed to be "Luca", a Gorilla that is mentioned in the book. Is Stone a chimp or gorilla? Is his roll in the book a completely different one then that in the movie? If his character is different, then who is the chimp that follows Koba and Grey in the film?Read more >
Warning Spoiler ahead for thoser who haven't seen Dawn of the PLanet of the Apes.
In an interview with Andy Serkis, he was asked if nuclear war was ruled out for the next installments, to which he replied it defainetly was not. Could the human-ape war result in a nuclear war, in which humans further destroy whats left of themselves? I wonder because when Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver came in on Rise they confirmed that the virus was suppossed to be a replacement for the nuclear war, because they both destroyed human civilization. But with Matt Reeves and Mark Bomback writing it now its really thier choice. I also wonder if this series will have the apes move to NYC, in search of a new home and refugee during/after the war. Becuase it seemed …Read more >

I just finished Firestorm, the prequel novel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a few days ago. I loved it and it has made me even more excited for the movie. It was a great book and I'd like to share my thoughts.
I thought that Greg Keyes did a great job developing Dreyfus and Koba. He made Dreyfus out to be a kind of hero for San Franscisco and just an all around great guy. I loved what he did with Koba giving him a backstory. I really felt sorry for Koba. He had a broken past and it really makes the character so much deeper.
I also loved some of the new characters he added like Talia, Malakai, Clancy, and David. These were all solid character that felt genuine and were very cool. I really enjoyed the parts with Talia in th…Read more >
Sorry, I haven't been on in a couple of days. I haven't been able to login through Facebook. Anyway, I writing this to tell you guys that there may be a name change in terms of Caesar's eldest son, River in Dawn. As I'm sure you're all aware by now, promotional material has River named as 'Blue Eyes'. I picked this when the first official featurette was released. I didn't think much of it until images came out on the offical Apes Facebook and Twitter pages. I commented on one of Nick Thurston's facebook posts about the sudden name change and he commented back and said that during filming it the character was named River but there was talk of them changing it but he wasn't positive. However, someone posted a comment on another blog…Read more >

I just saw the new trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It was fantastic! It was very cinematic and really cool although I did like the last one better. With that said I'd like to talk about a few things.
First of all, there is going to be alot of apes and I mean alot. I know we've seen this plenty of times but here it really popped out on me. With the apes running through the city at the beginning and the shot we already saw of Caesar's apes all gathered behind him we will definately be getting alot of apes.
By the way the shot of the apes taking down that bear is super cool.
I also think that the relationship between Malcolm and Caesar is going to be very strong and this trailer seemed to stress that. We hear Malcom t…Read more >
Hey yo guys,I'm very excited to see the last trailer of Dawn,I've noticed some things from the teaser that was posted in the oficial Dawn Instagram and Facebook page:
-Grey is a chimp and very loyal to Koba?A picture posted on facebook shows an actor with the mo-cap of Grey, and he's holding a long spear next to Malcolm and Koba. And down this picture we can see the same scene in CGI and I saw a chimp holding the same spear, and this chimp appears several scenes with Koba,so I think it's possible that he's Grey.
-Malcolm will be thrown to the ground by apes?In the new teaser posted,we can see a gorila standing in front of Malcolm and his clothes aren't dirty, but on other trailers he appears surrounded by apes and totally covered in mud.It is po…Read more >
I was looking though the twitter page for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and they posted a picture of who I believe to be River, Caesar's eldest son but they have him named Blue Eyes. The picture also has a subtitle that reads "Nick Thurston" noting him as the actor so it is safe to assume that he is River. The part that really stands out about this is the fact that he has blue eyes. Why does he have these blue eyes? Don't all of the intelligent ape's eyes turn bright green? Mabye it is because he is the son of an ape that has had it his whole life. River would be the only ape whose father has been altered at birth, There could also be another reason why. Who knows. What do y'all think?Read more >

I just finished Firestorm yesterday and I enjoyed it a lot! What I noticed in the book was that the characters of Koba and Dreyfus were developed, and made to be sympathetic. I think this was very purposful, because these are going to be the prejudiced members of their communities, and Matt Reeves emphasized he wanted no villians, and this book serves to show how Dreyfus and Koba aren't villians but want what they think is best to protect their species.
The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't show what happened to Will Rodman after Rise of the Planet of the Apes which would have been interesting to see.
I also liked the references to the original, with Milo and the Alpha-Omega Group, referencing the bomb in beneath. Were there any o…Read more >
I would like to see Dawn build back to the original 1968 POTA storyline. We need humans portrayed as dirty, non speaking savages that are hunted by civilized apes for science and sport. That was what made Hestons character, Taylor, so spectacular. He could talk. He was smart...and he shaved, totally amazing the apes as an odddity.

I was looking through the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes youtube account and they had this video up. It showed the digression of London and at about ten seconds in the ape's symbol (Caesar's bedroom window) appeared. My question is how did the apes get to London to put that on there. So far, from the plot points relased for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, there are many striking similarities to Battle. This makes me wonder how similiar Dawn will be to Battle. Here are some similairities and differences.
Caesar-Caesar: Obivoulsy Caesar from Dawn is meant to parallel Caesar from Rise.
Cornelia-Lisa: Both are Caesar's wives and are the Queen of the Apes.
River-Corneluis: Both are Caesar's sons. It seems that River is going to take a more active role in Dawn than Corneluis did in Battle, due to the fact that River is suppossed to be a teenager where Corneluis was just a little kid.
Maurice-Virgil/The Lawgiver: Both wise orangutans who are Caesar's trusted advisers. Maurice could possibly become the next Lawgiver. The Lawgive…

I was just exploring the new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes website that was launched the day they debuted the trailer and I noticed something that was bit off. From all the sources that were released in relation to Rise have stated roughly that the film starts in 2010 and ends in 2018 which is also rough. However, this new site has stated that the Dawn picks up 10 years later but the date appears to wrong. It says 2026. If its wrong then Dawn will be 8 years in the future not the 10 that was stated by Matt Reeves at Comic Con.

Due to changes in the production schedule of The Fast and the Furious, Fox is rearranging its release schedule for summer 2014, which means the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is getting pulled forward for a July 11th, 2014 release -- a whole week earlier than its original July 18th release date.

I was just having a closer look comic and I found a few images that were interesting. I apologise for the lack of images but I tried to make the tiff images that I have and tried to turn them into jpeg files but it didn't work. There is probably a thousand hidden messages in the comic.
So for anyone who doesn't know, The Americans' star Keri Russell has been cast in the role as the lead human character, replacing the character of Caroline (Freida Pinto), Caesar's adoptive mother from Rise. The character that will be played by Russell in the film has not had a name released as of yet. She seems to make an appear on the third page of the comic. With New York Comic Con this week, I thought I would talk a bit about we know currently about the characters of Dawn. As what will be shown during the hour long Fox Panel hasn't been released, we currently don't know whether there will be footage shown from Dawn or not, we can only wait and find out.
As we are all aware, many of the apes from Rise will be returning and we will be introduced to some new faces both ape and human. I do have to mention that no human characters from Rise are returning as it is likely that they all died from the Simian Flu (previously known as the ALZ-113 virus) meaning there is no Will and Caroline in this film. I have been giving alot of thought into how all three versions of the planet of the apes films sereis could be integrated into a single timline
here are a few details
Cornelius and Zira did not arrive on earth in the past but rather onto ashlar
Oberon was launched by humans trying to escape earth and simply pretend that the occurances on earth were not happening, thus their goal was to find a new world and live in denial that it wasnt earth. Mimicking the old world as best they could
of course its all very silly, but if someone thinks its an interesting idea I may make a timeline up for it for kicks :PRead more >
