Bernard E. McEveety, Jr. was an American director born in New Rochelle, New York. The son of silent-era director Bernard McEveety (Snr), his brothers, Vincent and Joseph, were also Hollywood directors and producers. He worked primarily in TV but he directed The Brotherhood of Satan and Disney’s Napoleon and Samantha, and did second unit work on The Return of Dracula (directed by Arnold Laven). McEveety’s huge TV-directing output included episodes of The Virginian, Bonanza, Rawhide, Combat!, Cimmaron Strip and The Big Valley, before he was asked to direct 2 of the 14 episodes of the Planet of the Apes TV series in 1974 - namely "The Legacy" and "The Cure". McEveety continued to direct such television series as Gunsmoke, Petrocelli, Charlie's Angels, How the West Was Won, Young Maverick, Eight Is Enough, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, The Incredible Hulk, The Dukes of Hazzard, Blue Thunder, The Fall Guy, Knight Rider, Airwolf, Simon & Simon and In the Heat of the Night, before retiring in the late 1980s. Bernard McEveety died in Encino, Los Angeles, California in 2004.
