Andrew Lesnie was an Australian cinematographer who filmed the 2011 movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Lesnie was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and attended the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). His first job after graduating in 1979 was as a cameraman on the magazine-style TV show Wonder World (1979-80). After two years, Lesnie moved on to numerous Australian film and television productions, including Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), the mini-series Bodyline (1984) and The Delinquents (1989). His work began receiving major attention after the release of the Australian-filmed Babe (1995) and its sequel, Babe: Pig in the City (1998). He was director of photography on New Zealand director Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-03), receiving an Oscar for his work on The Fellowship of the Ring. Since then, he has filmed several other Jackson-directed films, including King Kong (2005), The Lovely Bones (2009) and The Hobbit trilogy (2012-13), as well as Happy Feet (2006), I Am Legend (2007) and The Last Airbender (2010). Andrew Lesnie died of a heart attack in Sydney, aged 59.
