- A space vessel crash lands on Earth in the Western United States in what used to be California. The astronauts from this vessel arrive here by way of time travel through a rift in outer space. High Councilor Zaius learns of these astronauts, and fears that their advanced intellect and natural independence might inspire other humans to rebel against their ape masters. General Urko, viewing these astronauts as a tremendous threat to their way of life, has them shot and killed. Zaius is angry that they are killed before he had the chance to question them. [1]
